The overwhelming number of tutorials available is not surprising given how much marketing money has been spent on Photoshop training, seminars, books, and software in the past few years.

On the upside, Photoshop is built around working in layers, which means that unlike older software that made it difficult to organize and view both the photo and the edits, layers make it easy to add edits to photos and view them at the same time. On the downside, the layer workflow takes some time to learn and is admittedly very counterintuitive at first.

And, of course, Photoshop (like all other image editing software) doesn’t work on all images; in other words, images not shot in RAW format won’t work with Photoshop.

The software is geared toward a general audience, with a limited number of professional-level features, such as layers, adjustment layers, vector drawing, and advanced blending modes.

The software also contains a host of less-familiar features such as blend modes, filters and color adjustment tools (with alpha), shape tools and layer options. It can also be used as a simple retouching tool for photos that have already been taken. The primary difference from the professional version is the lack of any HDR support, which only really becomes essential in this day and age.

The Editor

To get started, navigate to the top-right of the window to enter the Editor.

The Editor is where you’ll find many of Photoshop’s default items.

Left the top-right of the window is the toolbar, which has most of the Photoshop shortcuts on it, such as the background and foreground color swatches, the rectangles, and the typical Photoshop toolbars, like the Shape tool, the Eraser tool, the Lasso tool, the Type tool, the Path tool, and the Eyedropper tool.

You can see a small menu on the bottom left, which you’ll need to use to access the more advanced features of Photoshop.

Let’s look at the menu and the toolbars in more detail.

The Tools Menu

The Tools menu is the most accessible menu in the top left of the main window.

Click on the Toolbox to access this tools menu.

The Toolbox is the main toolbox in Photoshop. It contains all of the tools in the program, organized by type.

In the toolbox, you’ll find the most common tools, like paint brushes, pens, and type tools.

The buttons have large icons depicting what the item does.

To the far left of the Toolbox is the Paths palette. This palette contains the shape tools and tools that can be used to create paths.

To the right of the toolbox and the paths palette are most of the other tools, such as the Lasso tool, the Magic Wand, the Color Picker, the Burn/Dodge tools, the Histogram, the Brush tools, the Transform tool, the Eraser, and other miscellaneous items.

I’ll discuss some of these tools in more depth later in this article.

The Pen tool is great for sketching and creating visual diagrams in Photoshop. It makes use of various tools such as the Airbrush, Spray, Eraser, and Blob.
The Lasso tool allows you to select an object or area by clicking and dragging the mouse. You can then drag the selection out to a new area.
The Gradient tool allows you to create smooth, gradual transitions between colors in an image.
The Quick Selection tool lets you select an area of an image by clicking on a selection border.
The Zoom tool allows you to enlarge or reduce an image. Click once to zoom, click and hold for a steady, zoomed-in view of an image or object.
The Original Brush features the same brush options as the Brush tool. It is useful for selecting custom brush presets or for creating a more organic-looking brush.
The Grid tool allows you to quickly divide images into a grid, allowing you to use a large canvas for cropping images or creating custom layouts.
The Healing tool repairs objects or pixels in an image that are out of place. This tool is very useful for fixing visible scratches or making minor adjustments to photographs.
The Eraser tool is similar to the Brush tool but is used to erase selected areas of an image. You can select your brush size using the Brush Options palette.
The Adjustment Brush allows you to quickly apply a preset adjustment to an image, such as Saturation.
The Move tool allows you to move objects or images around in a canvas. Drag an object from one area to another to change its position.
The Duplicate tool allows you to create multiple copies of an object or image. This is a useful tool if you want to create a working file for future editing.
The Save tool allows you to save an image into a new file or as a Web or Device-Specific format.
The Crop tool allows you to divide a canvas into any number of sections. You can also adjust the area of the image that will be saved.
The Crop to Selection tool allows you to crop an image to a selection boundary. You can then navigate around the object using the arrow keys or click on the canvas to move the image, and Alt+click on the canvas to reselect it.
The Zoom tool allows you to enlarge or reduce a canvas, allowing you to study closely an image or object. Click once to zoom, click and hold for a steady, zoomed-in view of an image or object.

Category:Philosophy by yearTreasurer Scott Morrison has offered a staunch defence of his deeply unpopular with-profits tax, saying the reality is that people who worked hard and played by the rules should not be penalised when times turn bad.

Mr Morrison denied he had not met Australia’s obligations under the Paris agreement, despite repeated questions by Labor senators about the “loophole” allowing companies to deduct losses even when they are wiped out by the tax.

Saul Eslake joins Insiders at the Shorten Government’s recent week in the international media spotlight, including the Labor leadership coup and ‘no go areas’ for ministers.

The tax hit the headlines earlier this week when it emerged a $55 billion windfall in tax “credits” for the benefit of the top 10 per cent of wage earners would be effectively wiped out by the higher tax rate.Q:
